ONORATA-VERSE BACKGROUND:Adam was born in London to John and Abigail Sanders under the birth name of Richard Sanders. His father was prone to apathy as a result of his drinking problem, whereas his mother didn't need alcohol to maintain her apathy. Between Richard's being unplanned as well as the unstable nature of the post-apocalyptic world, his parents' apathy carried over where he was concerned as well. It made it much more difficult for them to ensure their own safety with the extra challenge of having a child running around. Most of his childhood was spent in school or becoming accustomed to the streets and how to survive, although a lot of it was merely dumb luck in his case.
He started drinking around the time when he was 16 years old, and at that point, it was mostly done intermittently. It wouldn't pose as much of a problem until a few years later. He finished his education and didn't pursue anything beyond that. He met Yaeko not long before graduation and married her when he was eighteen. That didn't last very long at all, when he caught her kissing someone who he had considered a friend up until that point. This left him distraught, but he might as well try again, right? When he was nineteen years old, he met and married Helene. This lasted for about two years, until Helene went insane (to this day, he still can't explain what happened), ran away from him, and joined a convent.
London just wasn't doing it for him anymore. He decided to give life a try in Milan, Italy. He marries Maria at the age of twenty-two, and she bears him two sons. He lived with her and his children for about five years, a five years that ended after a gradual build up of anger and depression caused him to become violent, and he killed Maria and his two children. He left and hid away under a different name – Adam Monroe.
Still in Milan, his drinking which had been becoming more frequent (and would occasionally inspire him to pretend he was a samurai. Drunken logic. Don't ask.), it had become more or less a constant. He married Frederica at the age of twenty-seven, and she died of a drug overdose a few weeks after their marriage.
He returned to London, desperate for some sort of familiarity to give him comfort, and he pursues Yumi, who was one of Yaeko's cousins. Adam is twenty-nine years old when they wed, but he becomes bored of her and their marriage so he leaves. At the age of thirty, he meets Angelica and this was the first time that he fell in love in ages. Most of his marriages were a product of wanting to find some sort of stability as opposed to anything to do with love. He marries Angelica for the right reasons, but she dies in a terrible accident. He never quite gets over what happened, and later that year he marries someone else by the name of Maria in an attempt to get over his grieving, but it doesn't work at all. Instead, Adam becomes homicidal and burns their house down.
When Adam is thirty-two years old, he marries Diane, who dies of a deadly disease. The night after her funeral, Adam was at a bar (not so unusual) and was wasted out of his mind (again, not so unusual) and while the details of that night are almost entirely lost on him, he woke up what he thought was the next morning with odd and vague memories of being kidnapped and laboratories. None of it made much sense, and it made even less sense when he saw the date was a few weeks later than what he thought it was. Adam didn't want to think about that one too much, so he passed it off as a major drunken oversight on his part, and a few bad dreams.
Later that year, Adam meets Louisa while at a bar. After a few hours of drinking and recounting everything that had happened to him up until this point (leaving out a few choice details, of course) and all of his failed marriages, Louisa proposes to him, they leave, and get married not long after midnight. On the way back from the ceremony, they're mugged and Louisa is shot and killed. Adam was shot several times, but managed to carry Louisa to the nearest hospital, even though he knew she was dead. When he got to the hospital with her, they didn't tell him anything that he didn't already know until they said that he was perfectly fine and didn't have a mark on him when he said that he had also been shot. Frustrated and distraught overall, he left and tried not to think much about anything.
At the age of thirty-four, Adam meets and marries (despite his past experiences with marriage suggesting that this might not be the best idea for him) Theresa. It was relatively uneventful for about six months, until the night when Theresa and her lover (the things Adam doesn't pick up on while living in a state of perpetual drunkenness) kill Adam and leave the body in a dumpster. It came as a great shock to them when he showed up the next morning, very angry about what happened and not only was what they did bad enough, but they made it even worse by putting him in a dumpster. Their shock was short-lived as he shot and killed the both of them. And Adam was no longer able to ignore the fact that for some reason that he couldn't even fathom, it was seemingly impossible to kill him.
When he's thirty-five years old, he meets and marries Trina after moving back to Italy. This marriage also doesn't last very long, as Trina is killed by the Mafia a few months later. Finally having something he could put the blame on, Adam goes to Reggio Calabria after hearing that might be somewhere he could get answers or even revenge. Adam allies himself with the Antimafia Commission solely because of what happened to Trina, and there was talk that he had to be supervised carefully. Whatever
that meant.
